The Environmental Health Department is the administrative authority for permitting well services in Dallas County. In Iowa, all work that meets the Iowa DNR definition of "well services" must be performed by either the owner of the non-commercial well or by a Iowa DNR Certified Well Contractor. Please visit Iowa DNR's Private Well Program website for more information.
Private Well Owners
Did you know that if you drink water out of a private water supply, you should test your water source at least once each year and anytime that the well water changes in look, smell or taste? Private wells can be tested for free, contact your local Environmental Health Specialist for information.
Help protect the groundwater used by your family and others by having all of your unneeded wells and cisterns properly plugged. For information to participate in a grant program that will pay for part of your plugging cost or well rehabilitation cost, click a link below.
