Dallas County Environmental Health Department is an agency of the Dallas County Board of Health. The agency was founded in the early 1970s, and is charged with protection of the public health and the environment through education, advocacy, and enforcement.

Programs include: Private Septic permits and inspections; Private Well permits and inspections; Well testing, reconstruction, and well closure under the Grants to Counties Program; Water quality; Solid waste disposal; Recycling; Household Hazardous Waste; Nuisance inspections; Indoor Air quality; Radon; Animal bite follow-up for human rabies exposure.  Annual inspection of Public pools, tanning beds, and tattoo shops under contract with Iowa Department of Public Health.
