Dallas County uses the Alert Iowa System which is a 100% free for the end user. Alert Iowa is currently hosted by the WENS platform.
Alert Iowa is an automated messaging system designed to alert individuals of severe weather, special event information or for other pertinent communications. While Alert Iowa is not intended to be a replacement of primary communications system, such a weather radio, the system can be especially helpful to notify persons of severe weather.
Alert Iowa requires a subscription, those seeking to apply should use the Alert Iowa Subscription Page.
Alternatively, users can text "DallasAlerts" to 69310 and be returned with a subscription link.
The Alert Iowa program also allows select agency administrators to issue reverse 911 calls and wireless emergency alerts on a geographical basis.
Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) are push notifications to user's cell phones. WEA does not require a subscription and is automatically sent for certain events such as tornado warnings or flash flood warnings.
