Dallas County Conservation Board naturalists will be hosting an adult excursion to a natural area in northwest Missouri to view the total solar eclipse. The vehicles will leave Forest Park Museum, Perry at 7:30 a.m. and return around 5:30 p.m. Upon arrival, the naturalists will present some educational programming, as well as encourage people to enjoy the features of the park. The eclipse will start around 11:40 a.m. with totality being reached at 1:08 p.m. The trip is limited to 16 adults, although additional people or families with young children are welcome to caravan along in their own vehicles at no charge. Cost of $10 per person to cover transportation costs and viewing glasses must be paid upon arrival. Participants should dress to be outside, and bring snacks, water and money for lunch at a sandwich shop. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.
The buzz surrounding the approaching total solar eclipse is putting the customary pre-potential blizzard hype to shame! No one truly has a good handle on estimating how many people are going to be on the roads, at what time, and going to which location. Our staff has traveled to Missouri to scope out our planned area – which is a bit off the beaten track. We do encourage all day-trippers to pack for a day full of travel and an awe-inspiring celestial display. And as with many of our programs, we are dependent on the weather to cooperate!
