Join a DCCB naturalist at a local library to learn about conservation efforts for this rare Dallas County owl. Barn owls were once a common bird in Iowa’s savannahs. Their numbers have declined at such a rate that in 1977 they were placed on Iowa’s endangered species list. These birds are tolerant of humans and can co-exist with a little help. This includes the use of barn owl boxes. We will share the natural history of this owl, attempts at its recovery and Dallas County’s plan to return this bird to the landscape. Lunch will not be provided.
