Please arrive in our office before 4 PM for all title transfers or if you are moving into Iowa from another state.  **No title transfers, out-of-state move-ins, trailer transfers or junking certificates will be processed after 4 PM.

If an error is made on the assignment of title - DO NOT CHANGE, DO NOT WRITE OVER, DO NOT CROSS OFF, DO NOT USE WHITE OUT and DO NOT ERASE!  Any alterations or erasures void the title and a replacement title will be required.  Options to resolve common problems are listed below.

  1. Incorrect date - an “Affidavit of Correction” will be required.  The affidavit must be completed and signed by all sellers and all buyers in front of a notary.  Do not cross through the date.
  2. Seller signs or prints his/her name(s) on the "assignment" line (top line on the back of the Iowa title) - an “Affidavit of Correction” will be required.  The affidavit must be completed and signed by all sellers and all buyers in front of a notary.  Do not cross off anything.
  3. The seller/buyer signs on the incorrect line - the seller/buyer must sign again on the correct line, and the correct seller/buyer signs below the incorrect signature.  An “Affidavit of Correction” will be required.  The affidavit must be completed and signed by all sellers and all buyers in front of a notary.  Do not cross off anything.
  4. Incorrect odometer reading written on title – the seller will need to get a replacement title, in the county where the title originated and start over.  Do not try to rewrite odometer.
