Strengthening Families Program:  For Parents and Youth 10-14
Learn how to build healthy and thriving family relationships during those sometimes challenging teen years, by attending our Strengthening Families Program: For Parents and Youth 10-14 (SFP 10-14). ISU Extension and Outreach in Dallas County will be offering the seven week program for parents and their youth (ages 10-14) at Waukee Elementary School on Sundays, October 1 through November 12 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. with a free meal beginning at 5 p.m.  $19/ family with FREE Child Care Provided for younger children.  Register:  Waukee Community Education, http://www.waukeeschools.org/our-district/community-education/ or (515) 987-2761.  Questions:  Lisa Mickelson with ISU Extension and Outreach, (515) 993-4281 or lmickel@iastate.edu.   Note: Spanish classes will be offered if there is enough interest.  

Great Beginnings for Families
Parents are the most influential people in their children’s lives. Although sometimes challenging, one’s role as a parent can be very rewarding and fulfilling as they guide and encourage their children to develop into caring, confident, respectful, responsible and healthy individuals. In this five-week skills building program for parents/caregivers of infants through kindergartens, the following topics will be covered: positive discipline and guidance, helping children resolve conflict, basic principles of child development, handling uncomfortable emotions and feelings and encouraging learning through play.  Dates:  Thursdays, September 28 – October 26, 10:30 am – 12 pm at Perry Town Craft Center, 1124 Willis.  Free!  Child care also provided. Block Fest™ is a hands-on learning and building extravaganza for parents and children 8 months to 8 years. Block play helps children develop early math, science and literacy skills. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No shoes or bare feet. Socks with blocks! Space is limited to 30 people per session so PRE-REGISTRATION is a must!
